Sardines are named after Sardinia, the ancient Italian island where large schools of these fish were once abundantly found. There are more than 21 species that may be classified as sardines. Brisling sardines are the Sprattus Sprattus species and are considered to be the smallest and most premium type of sardines. Our brislings are caught during the October-November fishing season in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean.
